COUNTDOWN FOR A LIFEGROUP-WIDE PLAN

LIFEGROUP LEADER CHOOSES
BOOK TO BE STUDIED
GOAL: To start thinking about the Book of Scriptures to teach and when.  [For us here at HIS LIFE -- we are preparing for the PARABLES Studies on JULY-SEPTEMBER 2013]

Before anything else, the LIFEGROUP Leader chooses a STUDY Course (for us here at His Life, we have chosen The Parables Study)  to undertake together with his / her LIFEGROUP.
This Course will run for around 12 Weeks.  To see the Titles and Dates, CLICK HERE >>  THE REVEAL CAMPAIGN of His Life Ministries.
The Study Guide includes already a Running Commentary for this Course.
PLAN TO ORDER YOUR STUDY GUIDES NOW!

LIFEGROUP LEADER LEADS
PILOT GROUP FOR UPCOMING LEADERS
GOAL: To prepare your existing LifeGroup Members and also Recruit NEW Potential Group Leaders for the purpose of building a Team to RUN the Course.

Your existing LifeGroup Members and New Recruits must be seen to be Potential Leaders.  You must prepare them to be YOUR PILOT GROUP (your Group of 12).
The PILOT GROUP (Your 12)  meets for 2 to 3 weeks doing the 1st 2 to 3 lessons as Test Drive Lessons.
The LifeGroup meetings are divided equally between PRACTICE and PLANNING.
For the practice session, the group should be run exactly like an actual group in the REVEAL CAMPAIGN.  This calls the Group to divide into smaller groups of 4 and sitting at card tables (or small tables) all over the house or venue.
One person in each foursome is assigned to lead the group, using the Group Agenda Guide on the worksheet for that session.
During the PLANNING time at each session, the group regathers to discuss the over-all plans for the LIFEGROUP-Wide Campaign and divide up the chores (This is for your 144 Party).
The Pilot Group becomes the pool from which leaders are chosen to run the REVEAL Campaign.  You as a LifeGroup Leader gets a first-hand experience with the Study Guide material for groups and the excitement of being in a group.

LIFEGROUP LEADER
STARTS ANNOUNCING THE CAMPAIGN
GOAL: To get the word out to the whole SITE, CHURCH, NETWORK in every possible way -- HIS LIFE WIDE!

The word about the REVEAL Campaign will get around quickly through the people in the Pilot group/s (there is nothing so contagious as an “unofficial news leak”).
We will begin the official publicity of the REVEAL Campaign by June 16 (Father's Day).
We will be using eye-catching posters, fliers, church bulletin announcements, FB, Media, plus the personal encouragement from the Preaching Pastor each Weekend / Sunday.
The Communications Director for the REVEAL Campaign should emphasize the BIG DREAM of the whole CHURCH getting involved.
This Campaign is a BIBLE STUDY Campaign choosing ONE, TWO or THREE of the following:
(1) Self Study – ON YOUR OWN, Quiet Times.
(2) LifeGroup Study – WITH A LIFE GROUP, LifeGroup Times.
(3) Church-wide Groups Study – EVERYONE with an Expository Teaching from the same passage, Sunday Times.
We must announce the 144 Parties everyone can get into for them to be acquainted with the CAMPAIGN.

>>>3
LIFEGROUP LEADER and PILOT GROUP CREATES A PARTY (The 144 Party)
[The 144 Party is led by a LifeGroup of 12, each recruiting a maximun of 12 more people under them]
GOAL: To give friends and contacts a chance to see the REVEAL Campaign Course,  and encouraging them to have this journey for the next 3 months.

The whole SITE, CHURCH, NETWORK is invited to one of the 144 Parties POT-LUCK Supper / Dinner / Snack / Lunch in the church fellowship hall, restaurants, multi-purpose rooms and other similar venues.
Child care may be provided for Adult visitors bringing their children with them.
The LIFEGroup Pastor / Leader and members of the PILOT GROUP explains the REVEAL Campaign Studies on the Parables and share what they have experienced in the PILOT GROUP.
The LIFEGroup Leader leads everyone in a guided tour of the first few pages of the Study Guide, including the model for personal Bible study and group sharing from Unit One.
The LIFEGroup Leader introduces the other GROUP LEADERS who have volunteered to “host” a group and explains the procedure for joining a group in this Program.
This 144 PARTY should be scheduled about two weeks before the first Expository Teaching Session – to give the LIFEGROUP a week to “sign-up” and a week to have their own group meeting before the teaching session.
(HOW TO RUN THE 144 PARTY will be posted below)

>>>2
LIFEGROUP LEADER
LAUNCH GROUP SIGN-UP WEEK.
GOAL:  To register and assign as many people as possible to Groups before the Expository Teaching begins.

The week following THE 144 PARTY is designated as “SIGN-UP WEEK"  for the Campaign inviting everyone to “call a few friends” during the week finalize plans by the following Sunday (at least one week before the Expository Teaching begins).
Study Guides are given out as people sign up and money collected for the STUDY GUIDE.
If a person was not at the 144 PARTY, the study assignment for the first session is explained so that the person can do the homework for the first session.
Having a special ONE-WEEK Push will help to emphasize the importance of getting started BEFORE the first Expository Teaching session.  This will take place on July 14 SUNDAY.  The first Topic in the Study Guide will be PREACHED on July 21 and on-wards.

>>>1
 REVEAL LIFEGROUPS
AND EXPOSITORY TEACHING BEGIN
GOAL: To start all of the LIFEGROUPS at the same time in sync with the Expository Teaching.

Kick-off week begins with the LIFEGROUPS meeting throughout the week or all at the same time immediately before the Expository Teaching session with the SITE PREACHER / SPEAKER.
LIFEGROUPS that did not receive their Study Guides or complete the Home Assignment before this session use the time to go over the Bible study for Unit One together, answering the questions on the spot.
The LIFEGROUP Pastor / Leader divides the group into 4’s and appoints one person in each foursome as the leader.  This person uses the questions under Group Agenda on the worksheet in the Study Guide to lead the discussion.
The last few minutes of the group meeting is spent working on the group goals and disciplines that are suggested in the Bible study for Unit One under “Apply”.
All of the LIFEGROUPS gather for the Expository Teaching Session and the pastor/teacher encourage the groups to keep growing.

Welcome from LIFEGroup Leader of 144 PARTY /5 minutes

Welcome the PARTY GROUP and introduce them to the dream of a HISLIFE-WIDE Campaign to get to know the Word of God and one another in a deeper way. Explain briefly the three-dimensional approach to the study of Scripture in this program: (1) self-study, (2) group-study, and (3) expository teaching, the big group study.

Announce creatively the book you will be studying together, how many weeks and where can they come to a big group teaching study.  Make sure to invite everyone to study along with you in this exciting adventure == the PARABLES.

Guided Tour of Study Guide / 10 Minutes

Pass out the REVEAL PARABLE Study Guide (participant’s book) to everyone.  Say something like, “This is the Study Guide for the PARABLES which will be taught SUNDAYS in most of our HLM SITES.
This Study Guide will help you get the most out of this program, whether you are doing the study on your own or with a group.

Take time to explain the in your own way the three plans:
Self Study,
Group Study and
Church-wide groups with the Expository Teachings on a WEEKEND.
GO THROUGH THE QUESTION and ANSWER PAGE ....

Lets take a moment and look at the Bible st approach which you will find on Unit One.
Notice that there are three phases to the Bible study:
(1) Read – twice – and jot down your first impressions of the passage.  This is to give you a ‘bird’s eye view’ of the passage;
(2) Search – verse by verse – looking for answers to the questions and jotting down your results.  This would be a ‘worm’s eye view’ of the passage; and
(3) Apply – making the passage personal to your own life at the moment.

The Scripture passage is printed right next to the worksheet, and if you do not have your own Bible dictionary, turn the page and look at the Notes.  You will find here the key words, people and places explained, plus a running commentary on the passage.

“Before we move on, turn back to the Bible study a moment and notice the far right column – Group Agenda.  Here is the agenda for the group leader to use when you get together to share the Bible study.

Note how the agenda has sharing questions on three levels:
(1) To begin,
(2) To go deeper, and
(3) To close.
With these questions, anyone can lead the group.
In fact, the program recommends that the leadership of the group rotate each week – a different person taking responsibility in turn.”

Introduction of Group Leaders / 5 Minutes

Pause here to introduce your TEAM of the program and the group leaders.
Speak words of blessings and honor to them.
Let them all INVITE everyone to consider being part of this LIFE GROWTH!
We are believing God for a Revival of Studying His Word!

Say something like, “The group meetings can take place anytime, anywhere, as long as meeting occurs before the teaching session.
Make sure to invite all you can to join you in a Group.

You can meet for breakfast on your way to work or during the day for lunch or in the evening for coffee.  It may happen near to your neighborhood or you may meet before Sunday Worship Celebrations.
You may also meet during the middle of the week, etc.

Hopefully, you will have a pretty good idea from talking with prospects before this evening what some good suggestions would before meeting times and you can simply announce the times and the group leaders for these times.

Or you may want to ask the people to cluster for a few minutes right now and discuss what would be the best time for the group to meet.

Four people is a crowd for good discussion.  Be sure to split into 4’s and ask one person in each foursome to be the leader.  This model is crucial.

Group Meetings (YOU MUST DO THIS)  / 15 Minutes

Have everyone be in a group of 4 and then do a sampler of the Group Agenda.

Introduction to the Book for Study / 15 Minutes

Call everyone back together for a brief introduction to the book you are going to study in this program.  You can refer to some of the material in the introduction in the Study Guide, plus any visuals that you find helpful.

Call attention again to the home assignment in the Study Guide for Unit One and explain that you will be teaching this passage yourself after their study and group sharing of the passage.  (If you intend to cover more than one unit in your first lecture, you need to ask the people to cover the same units in their preparation.)

Wrap Up and Questions / 10 Minutes

Ask everyone to turn back one more time to the APPLY section in the Bible study for Unit One on page 11 (or 13) in the Study Guide.  Read over the list of disciplines in the last question:

To complete the Bible study home assignment before the group meeting
To attend the group meetings except in cases of emergency
To share in leading the group – taking my turn in rotation
To keep anything that is shared in the group in confidence
To reach out to others who are not in a group and invite them in
To attend the teaching session with the Pastor / Teacher

Remind the group again of the “empty chair” discipline – to always keep an empty chair for newcomers and to divide the group into 4’s when the time comes for sharing so that the group never feels too large to have one more.

Remind the group again of the home assignment… and if you are covering more than one unit in the first teaching session, remind them on this.

NOTE: If anyone would like to be in a group but was unable to find a group to fit his/her time  schedule, invite this person to give you his/her name and see to it that this person is contacted.

QUESTIONS

1.     What is so different about the Bible study program? The integrated approach to Scripture: (1) on your own, (2) with your small group, and (3) with your pastor/teacher.

2.     Do you do all three at once?  No. You do you personal study at home before the small group meeting.  The small group meetings and the teaching session with the pastor / teacher can be on the same night, or the small group can meet during the week and have the teaching session at another time when all groups meet together.

3.     How long does the program last?  It varies depending upon the book of the Bible you are studying and the schedule you are using for this book; i.e., one unit per week, or combining units to shorten the time.  See the two options inside the front cover.

4.     Can a person join a group after the program has started? Yes.  In fact, this is the whole purpose of the “empty chair.” Each group is committed to inviting newcomers each week to the group.

5.     What do you do when the group gets too large?  You always split into groups of 4 before you start the sharing, such as group of 4 in the kitchen, a group of 4 in the dining room, and a group of 4 in the living room, etc.

6.     Why does the pastor have to be involved in the program?  People look to the pastor for direction.  Unless the pastor is quarterback – or at least the coach on the sidelines – the program will not work.
